happiness and elephants
i have to confess.
i am happy.
that one week earlier was tough. really tough. tough enough to break someone. but now i feel so strong. these last two weeks in clinics and on saint monica (the female medical ward - i swapped out of the male ward) have been going so well. i feel like i am in control of things - i have to ask fewer than a question a day on the ward rounds, and i am doing pleural taps, ascitic taps, lp's and everything with relative ease now. it's a great feeling. and the social life has been excellent! we had a big barbeque on thursday night and a crazy party on wednesday night (wo - reverse chronological order - wo) as kind of farewells to the dutch medical students who were leaving. fantastic fun.
so here i am at flatdog's resort at south luangwa national park. faster and cheaper internet but no photos unfortunately. i spent the night in a tent by the river. it was amazing! like jurassic park amazing. hippos wailing all night and splashing in the rivers. and this morning - elephants eating off the trees right outside my house! i was sitting in a chair outside as these magnificent creatures ambled in front of me, literally less than 2 metres away from me! it was fantastic. i remember from my childhood days how magnificent they were, and i am glad to say that they still are huge and graceful in a titanic kind of way (i.e. it wasn't just because i was a tiny tot, and everything looked huge back then). and monkeys playing in the trees. seems like monkeys have the maddest parties.
went on a safari drive this morning. wow!
- lots of elephants and elephant babies
- monkeys
- baboons (reminded me of you, nirosh)
- crocodiles
- giraffes
- impala
- beautiful birds
- hippos
- buffalo
and many more..
but unfortunately no lions or big cats today... hopefully next time!
anyway must go now! photos and more stories next time!
thanks for keeping up the posts guys - your posts hoon make me laugh so hard! and rayji - how is soccer going? and ilia - sounds like a prehistoric experience over there! hehe sounds like zambia may be more advanced in some ways!

Anyway - the MuNtZ-ness levels in me (and in LOLA!!!!!) are rizing to incredible heightS!!!??? its scarry- the other day she sprayed me with water from the sink while i was... well - u guys know wat i mean... and she didnt even know that we do that... man - she is get munted....
Its amazing how even when u r in a great place, and the sun is shinnins and al that... how u miss ur friends... ur allies... ur bros... and sisters :-)
Miss all u guys. wish i could share this Maltese experince with u. all of u. Cause - well it would have been da bombus.
Anyway.
Wats new? god knows.
On the weekend - went to this awesone place called St Peters Pool - its not actually a pool. its a little harbour in a mountain. and u jump in the water. the beautiful warm water. from the cliffs. There are 3-4 different heights. 1m, 2.5m, and about 4meters. Dude. we did all of them - over and over and over again. i got pics to prove it. it was mind blowing :-) just randomly jumping into water all day.
and there were heaps of local divers there- really good ones - they just kept showing off all day. doing back flips, summersaults, stage dives, cliff dives into the water. and heaps of sports ppl who do diving - did their cool thins off da rocks. Dude - i just bombed their asses :-) yeah! Reall missed my muntz that day - u guys would have loved it!
So.

Well.
Back to hospital. same all prehistoric life :-) got to scrub and stuff. but no one here cares. even if u try really hard. even if u show intyereest and even if u tell them u want to do ent and actually are able to answer all their tricky asss question on anatomy and stuff. still. no gives a flying f%$£.
Oh well.
Fuck them.
I am not turning up tomoro. Me and Lola are going to visit these prehistoric temples. They are - 500BC!!!

thanks for your post dawgs! wo. sounds like a very different experience to mine. but dude at least you’ve got lots of time to spend with lola and travel. and i’m sure you’ll look back and appreciate it all heaps. i know what you mean though. not being able to do stuff (even take histories?!?) must be friggin frustrating with a capital xy. i hope seattle will be awesome for you. sounds like doing prehistoric style modern operations must be totally exxxhilarating though! and there must be some pretty amazing surgeons there! hehe btw i am going to have to re-learn everything we learnt about sterile technique when i get home - *nothing* is sterile here!
anyway.
i look forward to our lethal suit parties!
