sri lanka times
wow.
it's so good to be back!
back here in sri lanka for a 12-day holiday. cousin from london is here as well for business/holiday. grandma's birthday. uncle and aunt. sharipha the amazing cook, lal the bartender, and happy times.
so far: string hoppers, chicken curry, pol sambol, potato curry; scallops prosciutti with three caipirinhas and two singapore slings; noodles and devilled meatballs; chicken stew and rice.
liquid refreshments: arrack and portello/necto times too many; bacardi; johnny walker; vodka etc.
funny times listening to my cousin's broken sinhalese. funny times with my cousin and i trying to ask lal 'how many years have you lived in this house' and then lal responding with 'what's the time?'....
getting my horoscope read. the astrologists went through the 'science' of it in great detail, which was very informative, and actually made the 'interpretations' more believable. towards the end of the mammoth 3-hour session, i became very knowledgeable on interpreting stuff. (perhaps i can do a bit of moonlighting as an astrologist?). anyway - apparently i'm going through a good patch, that will end when i'm 32. and then i will have 16 years of 'not so good stuff'... hm... apparently i will earn lots of money, but also spend lots of money, especially on my foreign, dancing and drinking girlfriend. cough. cough. joo. cough. hehehe :) i also need to be aware of 'invisible enemies' (as in those who smile in your face and then stab you in the back). i wrote it all down, and recorded the whole thing. fascinating stuff. i still don't believe it. there is more to my reality than my birth date and location. but what if - just as the moon influences the tides, the planets do affect us in ethereal ways? what if, possibly, it's all true? he 'accurately predicted' a few events in my past. but then again - if anyone told you 'you went through some good times in these months', or 'you went through some bad times during these months' - wouldn't that be true for you? we all have gone through bad times or good times in any period - and we would all be able to apply meaning to these statements. the more we apply, the more 'accurate' they become, the more we believe, the more we apply, and so on.
anyway, i don't have enough time to write all about my horoscope. enough to say that my cousin and i needed some stiff drinks afterwards.
and how about going to the gym, and having a personal trainer, for less than ten new zealand dollars? wow.
i have officially become my cousin's right hand man with organising a gala dinner for a big charity organisation here (sunetra bandaranayake - spellinks? - chandrika's sister). my cousin's pr firm is working with her and her charity (which works with helping the handicapped young in sri lanka, trying to break down the ignorance and social neglect they go through) - www.sunerafoundation.org . she's a fantastic person - it would have been so easy for her to just slip in to the political shoes of her hugely political family and ancestry. but instead - she is using her name to do amazing things. so anyway, my job involves such duties as taste-testing the food that will be provided by the five star restaurant. today. and then taste-testing the wines. darn. it's going to be tough. :)
tea time now.
